Anyone know anything about Fort William in WWI?

US Navy Base 18 had a detachment of 65 men in Corpach and they used “British powered lighters” to unload the ships.

There is the grave in Kilmallie of a Sapper who was in the Royal Engineers Inland Water Transport section so presumably they were working on the canal either to assist the US Navy or to move British supplies up the canal.

I have been contacted by someone whose father was in the Army Service Corps in Fort William during 1918, he was Motor Transport though he might have been a mechanic because he was an engineer in civilian life.  We are trying to find what the Army Service Corps were doing here in WWI.
